Israel is having a summer of cultural activities. Martha Graham and her ballet troupe have just arrived in a direct air flight from Egypt and will present a ballet series to Israeli audiences after several years of absence from the Israeli stage. Her flight from Egypt was made possible by U.S. Assistant Secretary of Defense David McGiffert who happened to be in Egypt and offered to transfer the entire group of 35 dancers. In addition, the Australian Ballet is performing in Israel and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra gave an outstanding performance several days ago under the baton of Leonard Bernstein on the eve of its departure for a 40-day concert tour that will take the orchestra to the Salzburg Festival, Munich, Berlin, Hanover, Helsinki, Copenhagen, Barcelona, Valencia, Madrid, Milan and Florence.
