Israel “Izzy” Asper, a Canadian media giant and pro-Israel activist, died Tuesday in Winnipeg at 71. Asper’s empire included Canada’s Global television network and more than 60 Canadian newspapers and news outlets worldwide. Asper was a staunch defender of Israel and a backer of Canada’s Liberal Party. He also was a strong supporter of Winnipeg’s Canadian Museum for Human Rights, currently under construction.
