Violence flared anew early today along the Israel-Jordan frontier as Jordanian anti-aircraft guns damaged an Israeli reconnaissance plane and forced it to land inside Israel.
The plane, fired on while it was over Israel territory but close to the demarcation line, landed near Motza village, about five miles west of Jerusalem. Much of the violence of the last few days has been concentrated in this area. The Israeli crew members emerged unscathed from the forced landing.
An Israeli border patrol shot and killed an Arab last night in the Central Jordan Valley. The patrol challenged the Jordanian when he attempted to cross the demarcation line, but he refused to halt. Continuous firing from the Jordan line prevented the recovery of the body until after dawn today.
Jordanian reports of several incidents yesterday revealed that a number of Arabs had been hit in an exchange of fire precipitated when Jordanian troops caught an Israeli patrol in the open and Israeli rescue units brought up mortars and automatic weapons to extricate the patrol.
