Israel was today keeping a close watch on the rapidly mounting Middle East crisis which this time is raging close to its borders.

Beside the fact that the Egyptian-Syrian propaganda attack on King Hussein involves the monarch of a country bordering on Israel, the major charges against the youthful Jordanian King is his alleged dealings with the Israelis.

It is reported here that the attacks on the “traitorous” king are making headway among the Palestine Arabs in Jordan. Even the traditionally loyal Arab Legion is said to be swaying in its relation with the throne.

Arms from Syria are being smuggled into Jordan and observers here expect King Hussein to react by ordering large-scale deportations of Syrians and Egyptians and possibly the imposition of martial law.
