The $6,000,000 loan from the American Development Loan Fund to Israel for telecommunications will make possible an expansion of Israel telephone service which otherwise would have been “impossible” to complete in the near future, Postmaster General Haim Ben Menahem told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency today.
He said the loan would enable Israel to solve its telephone communication problems. Among these he said the loan will make possible the completion of automatic inter-urban dialing, now in effect only between Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Haifa and their suburbs and providing telephones for each applicant. Currently, he said, the shortage of lines in some urban areas has caused a backlog of a year in providing telephones.
