A call for the establishment of diplomatic relations between Israel and Franco Spain was issued here last night by David Hacohen, a leading member of the Mapai Party and a deputy in Knesset, speaking at a public meeting of the party.
The absence of diplomatic contact between the two countries has done Israel great harm, Mr. Hacohen asserted. Replying to objections that Spain’s government was a dictatorship, Mr. Hacohen noted that Israel had relations with the Communist countries of Eastern Europe of whose governments Israelis disapprove.
Mr. Hacohen has served several times as a policy adviser to the Israel delegation to the United Nations and was his country’s first Minister to Burma. He is a central figure in the Histadrut’s huge Solel Boneh construction cooperative.
