The Israel Medical Association rejected this week-end a plan for national health insurance drafted by the Ministry of Labor.
The IMA said it had no objection to health insurance coverage for practically the entire population, but would not go along with new schemes to achieve this result. It favored expansion and extension of current medical programs.
The Israel Medical Association memberships includes virtually all the physicians in the country. It conducts and guides medical associations in various institutions such as Hadassah and the General Sick Fund and helps conduct research into previously unfamiliar diseases introduced by mass immigration.
