An Israeli military court at Beersheba sentenced one former Palestine Arab to life imprisonment and a second to a 27-year term following their conviction on charges of spying for the Egyptians.
They were charged specifically with illegal entry into Israel, entering a restricted Army area, possessing firearms and collecting military information. One of the two has pleaded guilty on all counts and asked for mercy, while the other only admitted to entering Israel illegally.
They were discovered behind some bushes writing down the registration numbers of Israeli military vehicles. They told the court that they had been offered four Egyptian pounds by an Egyptian Army officer for the information.
