Pinchas Saphir, Israeli Minister of Commerce and Industry, today met with U.S. officials to discuss in detail pending questions involving American-Israeli economic cooperation. Mr. Saphir is believed to have discussed Israel’s application for an $18,000,000 loan from the U.S. development loan fund. He met with William Rountree, Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, and others.
Mr. Saphir recently returned from the Far East where he took up economic matters with a number of nations. It was indicated that his visit to Washington involved not only a courtesy call on officials but actual detailed discussion of pending projects. The $18,000,000 loan from the development loan fund would finance power development in Israel.
