The Israel Ministry of Education issued today a circular to all schools ordering instruction to promote understanding by pupils of all religions. The Ministry acted at the urging of Israel’s interfaith Cooperation Committee, headed by Prof. Benjamin Mazar, president of Hebrew University.
Teachers whose courses included relations between Jews and non-Jews were instructed to present such material in a manner putting the Jewish aspect into a perspective of religions as part of general human experience. Schools also were instructed to organize special lectures on the relations between Judaism and other faiths.
