The daily newspaper Maariv today was fined 100 Israeli pounds ($55) for publishing, against government censorship orders, the name of Mary Frances Hagan, an American woman convicted here in October for espionage.

Last week, the pro-government newspaper Davar was fined 450 pounds ($248) for the same violation. The court held that Maariv’s offense was not as grave as that of Davar. The latter newspaper, a morning daily, was first to publish the woman’s identity with Maariv, an evening newspaper following. Three other newspapers have been indicted on the same charges, but their trial has been ordered by the court postponed pending appeals to the higher courts by Davar and Maariv.
