Col. Byron V Leary, acting chief of staff of the United Nations Truce Supervisory organization, informed the Security Council through Secretary General Dag Hammerskjold today that Israel has not been doing any work on the afforestation project in the woman’s land area south of Jerusalem since November 8.
Col. Leary’s assurance on this point was contained in a brief note in which he said “United Nations military observers did not observe any such work proceeding in the area for the last 10 days. ” A full report by Col Leary dealing with is Israel’s accusations against Jordan about the Jordanian Government’s failure to implement certain important sections of the 1949 armistice agreement is expected to be issued here this week.
