Prime Minister David Ben Gurion yesterday presented an Israel flag to members of the Israel delegation to the Olympics, who left for Helsinki. He urged the Israel athletes to “go and compete with our and God’s blessing.” He stressed that the participation of the Israelis in the Olympic games will mark the first time that citizens of the new state are competing under the Jewish State’s flag.
The Israelis participating in the world competition include a basketball team. The American Committee for the Israel Olympic Delegation, which financed the training and costs of the group’s participation in the Helsinki contest, was praised for its assistance.
