Israel demonstrated the competence of its paratroopers over Lake Tiberias yesterday and today carried out an exercise in which they jumped from planes at a height of 6,500 feet, fell freely for 30 seconds down to an altitude of 2,000 feet, then opened their chutes and floated gracefully down to the middle of the lake.
The exercise was part of Israel’s observance of Paratrooper Week. The exercises will continue with more exhibitions at the Ramat Gan National Park, to be followed by a parade through that city. The most spectacular event is scheduled to be held tomorrow, at Tel Aviv, when a mass drop of parachutists will be staged off Tel Aviv’s shore, the men dropping into the Mediterranean Sea.
