Dr. Nail Karabuda, Undersecretary of the Turkish Ministry of Health, today opened the second meeting of the United Nations World Health Organization (WHO) regional committee for Eastern Mediterranean countries, the majority of whose members are representatives of Moslem countries. He welcomed the Israel delegation which is participating in the meeting for the first time.

Prof. G. Mer. spokesman for the Israel delegation, declared that “in joining the WHO, it was natural for Israel to be assigned to the Eastern Mediterranean section of the organization. We wish to assure you of our wholehearted intention to collaborate with all other states in the region in the solution of our common health problems,” he added.

The Israel delegate added: “We are convinced that our country will benefit from this cooperation and venture to hope that our contribution may also be of some value for our neighbors and other states in the regional committee. Thus, we are joining an unbroken and united front against disease which is the sole purpose of this organization.” The agenda of the conference includes a discussion of health problems among the Arab refugees in and around Palestine.
