The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra inaugurated the symphonic concert season at Milan’s famed La Scala this week-end under the direction of Leonard Bernstein, with Isaac Stern as violin soloist, to a standing re### only crowd.
Earlier, the Orchestra had given the same concert at Naples’ San Carlo Theatre, and in Florence as part of the May music festival in both of those cities. The concert here brought the Philharmonic’s Italian tour to a close. The tour was greeted with enthusiasm by the Italian public and critics alike, with encores being requested at every concert by standing audiences.
