A special Parliamentary committee will meet soon to discuss plans for construction of atomic power stations which will produce mainly electricity in the Negev, it was disclosed today. The committee is made up of members of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Security Committees.
The special committee will consider plans submitted by a special survey committee of scientists and utility engineers to build atomic reactors for electrical energy.
Deputy Defense Minister Shimon Peres, who spoke at Dimona, in the Negev, declared that within ten years a large nuclear power station would be built in the Negev with much of its output to be used for desalination of salt water, Dimona is the site of a large nuclear reactor now under construction.
