Pinhas Sapir, Israel’s Minister of Trade and Industry, promised today he would propose to the Israel Cabinet relaxation of controls affecting half of the goods now imported into Israel.
Speaking at a meeting of the Israel Industry Advisory Council, he made the promise in response to demands for liberalization in Israel’s economy and abolition of Government controls.
He said his proposal, details of which he did not spell out, would be submitted to the Cabinet as a step toward a “freer economy.” He also reiterated the Government’s determination to sell its interest in all firms except those which “by the nature of their activities” must remain nationalized.
