Israel plans to pull its troops out of Palestinian cities during January elections for Palestinian Authority president. Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz said Monday that, if security precautions allow, the army will pull back from West Bank and Gaza Strip population centers a day before the Jan. 9 vote, and return a day after. “We will leave the Palestinian cities for 72 hours,” Mofaz told a major policy conference in Herzliya. “We do not want to be accused of interfering with the process.”
