Israel plans to release Palestinian prisoners for the Muslim holiday of Ramadan. The Israeli daily Ha’aretz quoted government officials as saying an unspecified number of prisoners will be released this week as a goodwill gesture ahead of a U.S.-sponsored regional conference on Israel-Palestinian peace to be convened in November. Prime Minister Ehud Olmert was still seeking army approval for the release, the newspaper said.
