Israel Premier David Ben Gurion today hailed the reelection of Henry Morgenthau, Jr., as general chairman of the United Jewish Appeal for 1950. In a cable to Mr. Morgenthau, the Israel Premier declared that he was “deeply grateful” to him for his readiness to assume again leadership of the United Jewish Appeal.
Irving Uson, chairman of the 1949 campaign of the Combined Jewish Appeal of Greater Boston, presented a check for $1,000,000 to Mr. Morgenthau, as part of the contribution of Boston Jewry to the 1949 United Jewish Appeal, it was announced here today.
Yaakov Zerubavel, member of the Jewish Agency executive, who is returning to Israel tomorrow, told the U.J.A. parley at Atlantic City that the Jews of Israel are on the frontline of Jewish survival. Asserting that every step forward by the Jews of Israel is reflected in a like advance by the entire Jewish people, Mr. Zerubavel said that the problem of immigration facing Israel is as urgent for American Jewry as for the people of Israel.
