President Yitzhak Ben Zvi and Mrs. Ben Zvi continued their busy round of official visits during their stay in Brussels and Antwerp this week-end.
They visited the International Exhibition, stopping at the Dutch pavilion where they were received by Dutch officials. They reviewed a military guard of African troops and then visited the International Science Pavilion in which Israel is participating. They also visited the Brussels Municipal Hall over which the Israel flag had been hoisted.
The Israel Ambassador offered a reception for the local Jewish community and at a dinner, key Belgian personalities were guests of Israel’s first family at a dinner, including the Belgian Foreign Minister, the President of the Belgian Parliament, the Belgian Ambassador to Israel and others.
In Antwerp yesterday, President Ben Zvi walked to synagogue, accompanied by a large number of Belgian Jews. During services he was called up before the Torah and recited a benediction for the Belgian royal family, the State and army of Israel and the Jewish people.
