Israel protested to the Israel-Egyptian Mixed Armistice Commission today that Egypt is maintaining more troops in the demilitarized Nitzana–El Auja–zone than it is permitted under the armistice agreement.
Israel charged that when the Egyptians and the Israelis withdrew from the demilitarized zone recently in accordance with an agreement reached with Maj. Gen. E.L.M. Burns, United Nations truce chief, they left behind more troops than they were legally entitled to station at three checkpoints on Egyptian soil inside the demilitarized zone. Meanwhile, infiltrators from Egypt cut Israel telephone lines within the demilitarized zone this week-end.
Syrian military positions on the eastern shore of Lake Kinnereth opened fire on an Israel patrol boat today, a military spokesman announced in Tel Aviv. He said no casualties had been reported.
