Israel has informed Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold that it is laying no more mines in the Sinai Desert, that all minefields there have been fenced and sign-posted and that Maj. Gen. E.L.M. Burns, commander of the United Nations Emergency-Force, has been provided by the Israel Government with maps of all Israeli minefields in the area.
These assurances were given the Secretary General today by Abba Eban, head of the Israel delegation here. He gave these assurances to Mr. Hammarskjold in reply to an official question by the Secretary General as to whether “there would be any further destruction of roads, railways and installations in Sinai, and whether there would be any further laying of mines.”
