Plans for licensing of a commercial radio network in this country, to parallel the government-owned Voice of Israel, were rejected by the Cabinet today despite earlier approval by Joseph Burg, Minister of Posts and Telegraph and several other members of the Cabinet.
The proposal for establishment of a commercial radio set-up, made by American companies which, had held out to the government promises of sizable revenue from such licensing, was opposed by the Cabinet as a whole on the grounds that commercial radio would operate outside government control. Voice of Israel is under control of a special Advisory Council comprised of representatives of all sectors and groups in the Israel population.
