A party of officials of the Shilumim (reparations) Corporation set up by the Israel Government to order reparations goods from West Germany and to distribute these goods in Israel arrived here today for a week’s conferences with officials of the Israel purchasing mission here.
The visiting party consists of Hillel Dan, chairman of the reparations corporation, Dr. Asher Citron, executive secretary, and Joseph Pecker, a member of the board of directors. The three men, who will later visit the mission’s branch office in West Berlin, came here to put the finishing touches on the proposed reparations purchasing schedule for the 1954-55 fiscal year.
This list will be submitted to the Germans sometime next week. It will remain subject to negotiation by both sides throughout the remainder of the 1954 fiscal year and will go into effect on March 31, 1954.
At the same time, a four-man delegation from the Israel Manufacturers Association has arrived here to study the workings of the reparations program and to investigate the availability of various types of German goods. The delegation is particularly concerned with the distribution of reparations goods to private industry in Israel.
There is no basis to published reports that the staff of the Israel purchasing mission in Germany will be expanded to a total of 300, a spokesman for the mission declared here today. In its Cologne headquarters and in its West Berlin branch office, the Mission currently employs 44 Israel citizens. No substantial expansion is contemplated.
