Israel was reported today to be mounting a strong campaign against the election of Syria to a two year term on the UN Security Council on the grounds that a nation which holds captive victims of aerial hijacking cannot be seated on a body entrusted with safeguarding world peace and international order. The election of new Security Council members will be held Oct. 20. Two Israeli nationals, Prof. Shlomo Samueloff, and Salah Muallem, have been prisoners in Syria since Aug. 29 when the TWA airliner aboard which they were flying to Israel was hijacked by Arab commandos and forced to land in Damascus.
