Israel was chosen today to fill a vacancy on the executive of the International Union of Official Travel Organizations which met in Luxembourg last week with representatives of 29 nations, as well as delegates of the United Nations and UNESCO, in attendance. Israel was elected in preference to Lebanon which sought to obtain the empty seat on the executive.
The Israel delegate to the conference, Dr, A. Lotan, reported to the parley on the growth of tourism in the Jewish state and pointed up the special tourism problems which will beast the new nation next year, which has been proclaimed a Holy Year by the Vatican. Scores of thousands of persons from all over the world are expected to visit Holy Places in the Palestine area in 1950.
