Israel has released 17 Egyptian prisoners of war who had been wounded and held since the Six-Day War at a hospital for prisoners of war in the PW camp at Athlit. The men were flown to Egypt aboard a plane chartered by the International Red Cross.
On the flight also were an Egyptian woman and her son of 12, former residents of El Arish, in the Sinai Peninsula, where her husband had served as an Egyptian civil servant. The husband escaped across the canal to Egyptian-held territory when the Israelis captured the town. The boy was wounded slightly during the engagement. He was treated in an Israeli hospital and has now been sent back to Egypt with his mother to be reunited with his father.
