Satisfaction was expressed today in the Israel press over the fact that United Nations truce headquarters has relieved Commander Elmer Terrell of the U.S. Navy from his post as chairman of the Israel-Jordan Mixed Armistice Commission.
The move came several days after the Israelis charged Commander Terrell with having committed a “travesty” in agreeing with the Jordan delegation that an Israeli patrol–which lost two dead–had been in violation of the armistice agreement when it returned fire which had been directed at it from across the Jordan frontier June 24. Premier David Ben Gurion had complained to UN truce chief Maj. Gen. E.L.M. Burns immediately after the protested vote in the MAC.
