Israel’s general security situation was discussed here today at a joint meeting of the Parliamentary Finance and Security Committees which was attended by Premior David Ben Gurion. Among the subjects considered were the problem of policing and defending the frontiers and the defense budget.
The supreme development authority envisaged by the Zionist Actions Committee will soon be established and will consist of an equal number of representatives of the government and of the Jewish Agency, Dr. Nahum Goldmann, chairman of the American section of the Agency, today told a press conference here. Dr. Goldmann, who leaves for London Friday, said that the body would deal with financial problems, as well as with purely developmental matters.
Hobbling along on crutches and wearing the medals of every Allied army and under-ground resistance movement in Europe some 200 crippled veterans of the war in Europe today demonstrated here in support of a demand that they be accorded the same status, rights and benefits now reserved for veterans of the Israel-Arab war.
The group attempted to march on the Parliament, but was halted by the local police. However, the veterans were promised an interview with Premier David Ben Gurion.
