The Israel Foreign Ministry has instructed its Embassy in Washington to ask the State Department for information about the nature and aims of American military aid to Jordan which is receiving $10, 000, 000 in arms assistance. It was assumed here that Israel would seek to establish whether the arms grant to Jordan was a one-time allocation or whether the Eisenhower Administration intends to continue the policy of arming Israel’s neighbors.
Israel’s diplomats in Washington will probably call to the attention of State Department officials the “unabated anti-Israel pronouncements from Jordan” which seems to be trying to outdo Egypt in its anti-Israel clamorings, it was reported here. A Jordanian broadcast in Arabic, meanwhile, urged Egypt today to reoccupy Sharm el Sheikh from the United Nations Emergency Force and seal the Gulf of Akaba to Israeli shipping.
