Israel is pressing for a meeting of the Security Council to continue consideration of the Suez Canal blockade issue and to reiterate Israel’s insistence that Egypt release the Bat Galim.

The last meeting of the Security Council left the Bat Galim issue hanging in midair as a result of Egypt’s implied readiness to release the Israel freighter. However, not only has the Bat Galim not been released, but the crew of ten Israel sailors is still in an Egyptian prison.

No formal letter demanding re-opening of the Bat Galim matter by the Security Council has been sent. However, members of the Council have been approached by members of the Israel delegation here who insist that the Council resume its session. As a result of these talks it is possible that the Council may meet again this week–unless Egypt yields to the urgings of the United States and Britain by releasing the ship and crew.
