Work was begun recently on the extension of the oil pipeline from Ashdot to the refineries in Haifa and more than six miles of pipe has already been laid in place and welded, it was announced here today.
The 9,000,000 pound project is expected to be ready for operation in June. On this section of the line the oil would flow by gravity and as a result would save about 250,000 pounds a month in transportation costs.
Meanwhile, a 50-mile-long pipeline bringing refined oil products to Tel Aviv where huge reservoirs are being built is expected to be completed in May. The entire line, with a 600,000 ton capacity and pumping equipment and storage facilities is expected to cost 8,500,000 pounds.
