Sample transistors have been manufactured in Israel and production is expected which will eventually make it possible to end present imports of transistors, it was disclosed today.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry recently named a committee of electronics experts to check bids received from several manufacturers seeking financial help from the Defense Ministry to start producing transistors.
The committee recommended “Elco,” a company owned partly by the Israel Discount Bank and headed by Dan Tolkovski, a former Israel Air Force Chief who subsequently directed atomic energy developments from a post in the Prime Minister’s office.
