A government spokesman today announced that the reclamation work in the Huleh swamp area was completely stopped this morning “for a short while” to permit clarification of certain questions connected with resumption of the drainage operations. The stoppage affects reclamation work done on Jewish-owned land in the Huleh area as well as in the disputed areas.
The chairman of the Syrian-Israeli Mixed Armistice Commission today visited the Huleh area to investigate and report on the ownership of a certain part of the swamp. He is expected to meet tomorrow with a United Nations observer to discuss his findings.
