Col. Moshe Kashti, director-general of the Israel Defense Ministry, said here tonight that Israel was currently engaged in “an unprecedented process of strengthening itself and buying arms.”
He reported also that Israel had exported 300, 000 of its famous Uzzi submachine guns, and 150, 000, 000 pounds ($50, 000, 000) worth of mortars. He said that 80 percent of the weapons used by Israel’s defense forces were imported, and paid for with foreign currency.
