The Israel Cabinet today decided to approach the three Western Powers to ask their support of Ambassador Abba Eban’s proposal made in the UN Security Council last Thursday–that Israeli and Jordan representatives meet at UN headquarters immediately to attempt to eliminate tension between the two countries. It is understood that notes to this effect will be handed to the representatives of the United States, Britain and France tomorrow.
The Cabinet also discussed defense problems today at a meeting at which the Army Chief of Staff was present. Other matters discussed included problems in connection with the administration of the law providing national non-military service for Orthodox young women. The enforcement of this law has been entrusted to the Minister of Labor.
