Construction work for a “free port” in Israel, situated on the estuary of the Koshon River, will begin soon, it was reported here today. The contract for the engineering operation was signed Monday between the Netherlands Harbor Company and Dov Joseph, Israeli Minister of Communications.
The contract provides for the enlarging, deepening and diverting of the Kishon River Bed which will enable sea-going vessels to anchor in the port. The Netherlands company will also build a 600 meter breakwater and dry-dock. The entire project will cost about $4,000,000. Netherlands is granting a $400,000 florins loan toward the project.
