Israel has decided to release about $500,000 in blocked accounts here owned by Arab refugees, as well as bonds, stocks and jewelry owned by refugees, It will use Barclays Bank of London as the disbursing agency.
Several years ago, Israel released $9,000,000 in blocked Arab refugee accounts through the Palestine Conciliation Commission. Those accounts were at the time at the Barclays branch here and in other foreign banks in Israel. The new release affects blocked Arab refugee accounts and other valuables now in the Bank Leumi and in the Israel Discount Bank. It is believed that the $500,000 in cash, and the valuables to be released make up the balance of Arab refugee accounts in Israel.
