“Every citizen a rifleman” is the primary objective of a nationwide plan launched by the Israel Army of Defense to train Israelis in sharpshooting, Col. Mordecai Makleff, Deputy Chief of Staff, told a press conference here today.
Col. Makleff also announced the impending mobilization of reserve battalions for civilians who have not previously served in the Israel armed services. The target-shooting training program will contribute considerably toward the maintenance of the highest degree of efficiency in the Reserve Army, Col. Makleff added.
A national council to implement the plan will soon be formed, he said. The council will include representatives of the Defense, Interior and Education Ministries, as well as Army officers.
