The Israeli Army will soon unveil its latest artillery weapon, the American MMV-107, a self-propelled cannon that can fire 75 shells a minute at a range of nearly 30 miles and can travel over any terrain at a speed of more than 50 miles per hour. The MMV-107 has already seen action against terrorist strongholds in Lebanon. It will be displayed to the public for the first time at Israel’s Independence Day Parade next month.
The cannon is considered to be the most advanced artillery weapon in the Middle East. It has a greater range than the Soviet 130 mm. artillery deployed in Egypt and is considered capable of knocking out the Soviet SAM missiles in the Suez Canal zone should fighting erupt anew on that front. The big gun is equipped with radar and infra-red devices enabling it to pin-point targets at night. It is manned by a 13-member crew.
