Israel tried to brainwash a Palestinian to assassinate Yasser Arafat in 1968, the Israeli daily Ha’aretz reported. The newspaper, which cited only one intelligence source for the story, said the plot had been inspired by the movie “The Manchurian Candidate,” in which a captured U.S. soldier is brainwashed by Chinese communists to become an assassin.
