Israel and Venezuela recently signed an agreement for rural development. The agreement would have probably passed without notice, except that it was signed in Jerusalem — the first such agreement to be signed after Switzerland refused to sign a bilateral agreement in Jerusalem following the Knesset’s proclamation that Jerusalem as an undivided city is Israel’s capital. At the time the Swiss refused to sign the agreement despite the fact that its details were completed and ready to be signed.
There was fear in Jerusalem that other countries might follow suit, but the agreement with Venezuela indicated that for the time being there will be no international rejection of Jerusalem as the site of signing documents.
