Israel vowed to retaliate harshly if Hezbollah launches any further attacks on Israeli soldiers. Deputy Defense Minister Ephraim Sneh was quoted as saying that Israel had “changed the rules” of engagement, implying that the Jewish state would no longer abide by the terms of a 1996 cease-fire arrangement that prevents Israel and Hezbollah from launching attacks on or from civilian areas. His comments came as the two sides continued attacks on each other’s positions.
