Israel warned its citizens in Colombia that they may be targets of guerrilla attacks.
The Counter-Terrorism Bureau in Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s office this week issued an advisory for Israelis in Colombia, especially those whose work is linked to the Bogota government.
According to the Counter-Terrorism Bureau, these Israelis are at enhanced risk of assassination or abduction by the Colombian rebel group FARC. The warning followed media disclosures that Israeli security consultants have been helping Colombian authorities in their fight against FARC.
The South American nation is a major attraction for thousands of Israeli trekkers.
