The Premier’s office today described as incorrect a report which appeared in the New York press that Premier David Ben Gurion advocated the appointment of a United Nations High Commissioner for Gaza.
In a communique issued by the Premier’s office, it was emphasized that the Premier discussed with Hanson W. Baldwin of the New York Times, various proposals in connection with the future of Gaza, but, the communique added, the Premier reiterates that, on no account, will Israel consent to the return of the Egyptians to Gaza.
(In New Orleans, Israel Ambassador Abba Eban, replying to a question with regard to Gaza, said: “Whatever the final outcome of our discussions on the future of Gaza and its refugee population, one thing is certain–there can be no Egyptian return to a territory which was never Egyptian.”)
