Israeli Ambassador Yosef Tekoah told Dr. Gunnar V. Jarring today that Israel will renounce support for Security Council Resolution 242 if the General Assembly passes a resolution distorting the five-year-old measure. The warning, it was understood, was made to the United Nations’ special Middle East representative by Tekoah at a half-hour meeting here at the Swedish diplomat’s invitation.
Tekoah, it was understood, advised Dr. Jarring–as he advised the Assembly in his speech yesterday–that passage of “one-sided” resolutions could harden the already strained Mideast deadlock. Israel, Tekoah said, will not change its repeatedly stated policy on peace solutions. Dr. Jarring has also met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed H. el-Zayyat and Jordanian and Lebanese representatives in recent days.
