Israel today lodged a strong protest with the Israel-Jordan Mixed Armistice Commission against the ambushing of an Israeli patrol in the Beersheba area yesterday by a band of armed Arabs. Two Israeli soldiers were killed and two wounded in the clash.
The Israelis demanded an immediate meeting of the mixed commission to prevent further “misunderstandings.” Authorities here were gravely concerned over the deteriorating situation along the Israel-Jordan border where Jordan has promised to halt frequent raids by marauding bands of “infiltrees,” but has done virtually nothing to prevent the attacks.
