Two Israel airmen landed at Lydda Airport last night to complete a 7, 000-mile flight from New York in two tiny twin-engined planes purchased in the United States for Israel’s Arkia Airlines.
Leo Garndner, Arkia chief pilot, and Gordon Levett drove the planes across the Arctic circle in just over 41 hours on a route which took them across Labrador, Goosebay Iceland, Scotland, London, Lyons, Rome and Athens.
Although this was not the first time planes have flown this route, the flight to Israel was considered notable because it was made during winter in a fight against the Northern winter night and heavy snowstorms.
